When foxes moved into Judith Doyle's downtown backyard, she was prompted to record them over two years. Pushing the boundaries of non-linear video, motion graphics and streaming media software, 'fox : future' includes random-generated imagery, text and sound. fox : future is an intimate chronicle of urban foxes that assesses environmental damage and the impact of this crisis on both seeing and response. It includes a non-linear story from the viewpoint of 'Runt', a sick urban fox.

How do image technologies shape our experience of nature? This is the theme of Alex Wilson's chapter "Looking at the Non-Human" in his book 'The Culture of Nature'. A Toronto writer and horticulturalist, Alex Wilson died from AIDS in 1983. fox : future is inspired in part by Alex's writing.
